While in the USA, Waan Booth - founder of Atelier Mayasura got into old furniture in a big way. Inspired by a friend who upholsters old and rare furniture with Jim Thompson fabrics, Waan and her husband Eric set off on an unusual hunt.
“We didn’t want to just buy furniture from a regular store because we wanted to find something with a soul, with a story to tell. To live among these kinds of pieces is much more interesting.”
When moving back to their hometown Bangkok, Thailand, the salvaged furniture moved with them. Two years before opening up the two-storey showroom, I visited Bangkok and photographed some of the pieces - A mix of Thai landmarks and American stories.
August 2014 - Bangkok, Thailand.
